Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Advisory for northern Jackson County...in effect until 2 PM PDT Wednesday. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. Flumet Flat Group Campground sits in a large meadow along the Applegate River corridor in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The site is designed for group events such as family reunions, church camps, school field trips, and scouting activities. The entire campground must be reserved as a single unit and features individual spurs for tents and trailers on a paved surface, along with picnic tables and Forest Service-approved campfire rings. The campground has a vault toilet and garbage collection but no potable water or electricity. Campers must bring all drinking water. The gate is locked; a combination is provided in the reservation confirmation. Nearby recreation includes swimming and fishing on the Applegate River, and the Gin Lin National Recreation Trail offers a 3/4-mile self-guided loop exploring 19th century mining history. The area is known for spring wildflowers but also rattlesnakes, ticks, and poison oak. Applegate Lake lies north of the campground and offers boating, swimming, and year-round fishing. The Red Buttes Wilderness is accessible to the south. The Mule Mountain Trail provides long-distance hiking through the Oregon Siskiyous with views of Applegate Valley.

Directions

From Jacksonville, OR, travel west on Highway 238 for 8 miles to Ruch, OR. Turn left onto Upper Applegate Road and travel 9.6 miles to Palmer Creek Road. Turn right onto Palmer Creek Road and travel 0.5 mile to the campground entrance on the right.
