Acorn Woman Lakes Campground offers a unique backcountry camping experience in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The campground sits in deep shade of a mixed-conifer forest along the shores of two pristine mountain lakes. All sites are walk-in tent camping only, with the closest sites approximately 0.25 miles from parking and the farthest about 1.5 miles. Vehicles must be parked outside the gated area, and all gear must be carried to campsites. An ATV portage service for gear is available at the discretion of the camp host for $25 per trip. The lakes provide excellent fishing opportunities for coldwater and warmwater species including rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, yellow perch, brown bullhead, and black bass. The smaller lake offers a rare fishery for wild, native coastal cutthroat trout. Motors are prohibited on both lakes, making it ideal for canoes, kayaks, and rafts. A 0.25-mile trail connects the two lakes. Hiking trails accessible from the campground include a 1-mile interpretive trail and the 2-mile Summit Lake Trail through mixed conifer forest with small water crossings. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are spread throughout, and drinking water is available via hand pump near site #2. Bear storage bins are provided at group sites only.

Directions

From Jacksonville, OR, travel south for 6.5 miles on Highway 238 to Ruch and turn left onto Upper Applegate Road (County Road 859). Continue south approximately 14 miles to Applegate Lake, turn left on Forest Road 1075, and continue 8.5 miles to the parking area.
