Waterloo Portage Lake Campground

Situated within Michigan's largest state park in the Lower Peninsula, Waterloo Portage Lake Modern Campground offers a scenic lakeside camping experience on the shores of Portage Lake. The campground is organized into three distinct loops—north, central, and south—each providing sites beneath a mature tree canopy. Every site features 30 or 50-amp electric service, a picnic table, and a fire ring, making it suitable for both tent campers and RVs. The campground provides modern amenities including restroom and shower buildings, which are operational from April 1 through December. A sanitation station serves RV campers. An accessible paved walkway connects the campground directly to the day-use area, which includes a designated swim beach and concession stand. The lake offers fishing opportunities for bass, panfish, and pike. The surrounding Waterloo Recreation Area spans over 20,000 acres and includes 11 inland lakes, an 18-hole disc golf course, and 20 miles of horseback riding trails. The DTE Energy Foundation Trail and numerous hiking opportunities make this an excellent basecamp for exploring the region.

Directions

From I-94, take exit 150 for Mt. Hope Road. Head north on Mt. Hope Road for approximately 2.5 miles, then turn west onto Seymour Road. Continue for about 1.75 miles; the campground entrance will be on your right.
