Bishop Lake Modern Campground sits within the 4,947-acre Brighton State Recreation Area in southeast Michigan, west of U.S. 23 and south of I-96. This modern campground features 144 sites with electrical hookups arranged in an open layout with scattered shade trees, creating a welcoming environment for families. The campground is within walking distance to the Bishop Lake day-use area, which includes a designated swim beach, boating access site with paved ramp and accessible kayak launch, and an accessible fishing pier. The recreation area encompasses nine lakes surrounded by high ranges of hills, oak forests, grassy fens, and shrub marshes. Campers can explore a 35-mile trail system open to mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding, including a 1-mile accessible Access-to-Recreation Trail connecting the campground to other facilities. Paddlesport rentals (kayaks and paddleboards) are available at the campground office during the summer season. An 18-hole disc golf course is located at Chilson Woods, and the park offers excellent fishing opportunities across its inland lakes. Amenities include modern restroom facilities with showers, a sanitation station, playground, and potable water. The campground office provides paddlesport rentals Memorial Day through Labor Day. Alcohol restrictions apply in the Bishop Lake day-use area from April 1 through September 30. Winter camping is available for those seeking a quieter off-season experience.
