About
Waterloo Pines Campground serves as a designated backcountry rest stop for hikers traversing the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail, a 36-mile route connecting Waterloo and Pinckney Recreation Areas. Located approximately 10 miles into the trail system from Big Portage Lake, the campground is specifically designed for thru-hikers with a one-night maximum stay policy. The campground offers 5 rustic tent sites, each equipped with a picnic table. A vault toilet is available on-site. Campfires are prohibited, so bring a camp stove for cooking. There is no potable water at the campground; the nearest water source is at Horse-N-Around Stables, located half a mile north along the trail, available May 1 through September 30. For those seeking a shorter hike, the campground can also be accessed via a half-mile walk from the Baldwin Road trailhead parking area. Follow the blue triangle blazes toward Baldwin Flood, veer left, cross the metal bridge, and continue through the woods for 10-15 minutes to reach the campground.
Directions
From the Baldwin Road trailhead parking area, follow the blue triangle blazes toward Baldwin Flood, veer left, and cross the metal bridge. Continue through the woods for approximately 10-15 minutes to reach the campground. Alternatively accessible as a 10-mile hike from Big Portage Lake trailhead.
