About
Brighton Horseman's Campground is a rustic equestrian campground designed specifically for campers with horses, located within Brighton State Recreation Area in southeast Michigan. The campground sits in a scenic hardwood forest setting off Chilson Road at the western terminus of Bishop Lake Road. Each of the 15 sites is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, with corrals available at sites 6, 9, 11, 13, and 17, and picket posts at other sites for securing horses.
Amenities include two vault toilets, running water available at the top and bottom of the camp drive circle, and two manure compost pits. The campground is adjacent to a staging area with a pavilion, additional vault toilet, grill, mounting block, and picket posts. The 21-mile bridle trail system offers diverse terrain and scenic views of the recreation area's nine lakes.
Brighton State Recreation Area spans 4,947 acres west of U.S. 23 and south of I-96, featuring five campgrounds, a 35-mile multi-use trail system, and riding stables operated by Brighton Recreation Area Riding Stables. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry.
