About

Waterloo Green Lake Rustic Campground is a 25-site rustic campground nestled along the southern shore of Green Lake in Waterloo State Recreation Area, the largest state park in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The campground offers a peaceful, wooded setting with grassy campsites, each equipped with a fire pit and picnic table. While rustic in nature, the facility provides essential amenities including vault toilets, hand-pumped water, trash collection, and an accessible boat launch for easy lake access. The campground serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation, positioned near the DTE Energy Foundation Trail, the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail, and the Border-to-Border Trail. Mountain bikers will find extensive trail systems nearby, while hikers can explore miles of interconnected paths through diverse terrain. Green Lake offers fishing opportunities for bass, panfish, and pike, and paddling is popular on the lake's calm waters. The campground also features a yurt available for year-round rental, providing a heated alternative to tent camping. Campers should note that while the campground feels secluded, some road noise from nearby M-52 may be audible. Sites 8 and 20 are known to offer the best privacy. The campground operates on a self-registration system and is accessible via a short drive off M-52. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for entry, and campers are limited to a maximum stay of 15 days.
