Hayes Campground is a well-maintained modern campground within W. J. Hayes State Park, situated on the shores of Round Lake in the scenic Irish Hills area of southeastern Michigan. The 654-acre park encompasses both Wamplers Lake and Round Lake, providing diverse recreational opportunities for campers. The campground is divided into two loops, east and west, with 180 campsites on asphalt pads equipped with 20- or 30-amp electrical service. Sites 1-10 feature full water hookups, making them ideal for RVers seeking maximum convenience. The campground offers modern restroom and shower facilities, a sanitation station with three lanes, and a blend of sunny and shaded sites. In addition to traditional campsites, the campground includes two mini cabins and two tiny houses for those seeking a cabin experience. Each campsite features a picnic table and fire pit. The campground store offers camping supplies and rentals, and bike, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are available at the office. Campers enjoy easy access to the park's extensive amenities, including a designated swimming beach on Wamplers Lake with a beach house and concessions. Round Lake, a no-wake kettle lake, is popular for paddling and panfishing, while the all-sports Wamplers Lake is known for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. The park features accessible fishing piers, two boat launches, hiking trails between the campground loops, playgrounds, and a picnic shelter. The location is ideal for families and provides access to nearby attractions including Cambridge Junction Historic State Park, Watkins Lake State Park, and Michigan International Speedway.
