Crooked Lake Rustic Campground offers 25 rustic sites nestled on the eastern side of Pinckney State Recreation Area, one of southeast Michigan's premier outdoor recreation destinations. The campground sits on Crooked Lake with direct access via boat launch and fishing pier, making it an ideal base for anglers and paddlers. Sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 20 feet in length, as well as tents of any size. Pinckney State Recreation Area is known for its extensive trail system, with 26 miles of multi-use trails drawing over 115,000 mountain bikers annually from Ann Arbor, Detroit, and beyond. The challenging Potawatomi Trail and other routes wind through hardwood forests, past inland lakes, and over ridges offering scenic views. Trailside camping is also available for backpackers seeking a more remote experience. The recreation area encompasses a chain of excellent fishing lakes and provides opportunities for hunting in designated areas during various seasons. As a rustic campground, Crooked Lake provides vault toilets and hand-pump water but no electric hookups or modern facilities. The isolated location off a dirt road offers a peaceful camping experience while remaining accessible to nearby urban areas including Ann Arbor and Jackson.
