About
Appleton Lake Campground offers a rustic camping experience in the heart of Brighton State Recreation Area's 4,947 acres in southeast Michigan. The campground provides 25 sites shaded by mature oak trees, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Facilities are intentionally minimal: two vault toilets and a hand-pump well for potable water. There are no electric hookups, showers, or modern amenities. The campground's location makes it ideal for paddlers and anglers, with the Appleton Lake boat launch a short walk away. The lake offers fishing opportunities alongside the recreation area's eight other inland lakes. Mountain bikers and hikers benefit from direct trail access to the park's extensive 35-mile multi-use trail network. Brighton Recreation Area also features Bishop Lake's designated swim beach, disc golf, and equestrian facilities, all accessible from the campground. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry. The rustic setting suits tent campers and those with small trailers seeking a quieter alternative to the nearby modern campgrounds at Bishop Lake.
