Washington State Park Campground

Open — Open year-round. During the off-season from November through March, potable water, modern restrooms, and showers are not available in the campground. Campers should bring their own water during this time. Full services including restrooms, showers, laundry, water, and dump station are available during the on-season from April through October.

Washington State Park Campground is situated along the Big River in Washington County, Missouri, offering a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. The campground features basic campsites, electric campsites, platform tent sites, and a special-use camping area, along with a family campsite option for those seeking additional space. Visitors can explore three distinct hiking trails ranging from easy walks to rugged backpacking routes, including the 1,000 Steps Trail, Opossum Track Trail with bluff overlooks, and the challenging Rockywood Trail. The park is renowned for its ancient petroglyphs and historic buildings constructed by African American Civilian Conservation Corps stonemasons during the 1930s. The Big River provides excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The campground area includes a playground and an amphitheater with accessible seating. During the on-season from April through October, full services are available including modern restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, water, and a dump station. The campground operates year-round with modified services during the off-season. A park store offers firewood, ice, and convenience items during the on-season. The park is located approximately one hour from St. Louis, making it an accessible escape into the Ozarks. Camping is limited to 15 days within any 30-consecutive-day period.

Washington State Park Campground is located at 13041 State Highway 104, De Soto, MO 63020. From De Soto, take MO-21 south for approximately 10 miles, then turn right onto State Highway 104 and follow signs to the campground.
