About

St. Francois State Park features two covered picnic shelters ideal for family reunions, company picnics, and special occasions. Located in the park's forested ridges and cool hollows, the shelters provide a comfortable gathering space in a natural setting. Shelter #1 accommodates up to 60 people with 10 tables, while Shelter #2 accommodates up to 72 people with 12 tables. Both shelters are situated near vault toilet facilities, with many individual picnic sites throughout the park along the shaded banks of the Big River and Coonville Creek. The park offers over 2,735 acres of outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking trails through the Coonville Creek Wild Area, river access for canoeing and floating, and fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish. The shelters do not have water or electricity available, but drinking water facilities are located nearby at other picnic areas. The park provides ample parking and several ADA-accessible sites throughout the picnic areas.
