Special Weather Statement issued December 30 at 12:59AM CST by NWS Bismarck ND

12:59 AM — 4:00 AM

An area of a wintry mix of light freezing rain and snow could impact portions of northern and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. The highest chances for a glaze of ice accumulation are along and to the north of a line from Crosby to Minot to Jamestown. The freezing rain could lead to icy spots on roads and sidewalks, and could impact the Tuesday morning commute. Allow extra time for travel and check the latest road conditions before setting out. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. The threat for freezing rain will end by late Tuesday morning.

About

Washegum Campground is one of two modern campgrounds at Lake Metigoshe State Park, located in the scenic Turtle Mountains along the U.S./Canadian border in northern North Dakota. Constructed by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s, the park is one of North Dakota's most popular year-round vacation destinations. The campground features forested sites offering privacy, with most sites providing electric and water hookups. The park's unique woodlands and wetlands provide habitat for diverse plant, animal, and bird species seldom seen elsewhere in North Dakota, including moose, white-tailed deer, pine marten, and ruffed grouse. Visitors can explore over 13 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, including the Old Oak Trail, North Dakota's first National Recreation Trail. The park offers excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and birding on the small lakes, as well as fishing for northern pike, walleye, and perch. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, fat tire biking, ice fishing, and snowmobiling on the Peace Garden Snowmobile Trail. The park offers equipment rentals including canoes, kayaks, cross-country skis, snowshoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Additional amenities include a swim beach, boat ramp, playgrounds, dog park, fishing docks, and picnic shelters.
