Special Weather Statement issued December 30 at 12:59AM CST by NWS Bismarck ND
An area of a wintry mix of light freezing rain and snow could impact portions of northern and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. The highest chances for a glaze of ice accumulation are along and to the north of a line from Crosby to Minot to Jamestown. The freezing rain could lead to icy spots on roads and sidewalks, and could impact the Tuesday morning commute. Allow extra time for travel and check the latest road conditions before setting out. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. The threat for freezing rain will end by late Tuesday morning.
About
North Hill Campground is a primitive camping area within Lake Metigoshe State Park, one of North Dakota's most popular year-round vacation destinations. Located in the scenic Turtle Mountains along the U.S./Canadian border, the park sits about 14 miles northeast of Bottineau, North Dakota. The unique woodlands and wetlands provide habitat for a wide variety of plant, animal, and bird species seldom seen elsewhere in North Dakota, including occasional moose sightings. The park offers over 13 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, including the Old Oak Trail, North Dakota's first National Recreation Trail. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and ice fishing. The park features multiple small lakes perfect for kayaking and canoeing, with Lake Metigoshe offering northern pike, walleye, and perch fishing. A dog park is located near the North Hill Campground area. Lake Metigoshe State Park was constructed by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. The Chippewa called the lake "Metigoshe Washegum," meaning "clear water lake surrounded by oaks." The park offers hands-on educational programs year-round and hosts special events including Wild Outdoor Women weekends and youth day camps.
