Special Weather Statement issued December 30 at 12:59AM CST by NWS Bismarck ND

12:59 AM — 4:00 AM

An area of a wintry mix of light freezing rain and snow could impact portions of northern and central North Dakota late tonight into Tuesday morning. The highest chances for a glaze of ice accumulation are along and to the north of a line from Crosby to Minot to Jamestown. The freezing rain could lead to icy spots on roads and sidewalks, and could impact the Tuesday morning commute. Allow extra time for travel and check the latest road conditions before setting out. Do not use cruise control when driving on icy roads, and leave plenty of stopping distance ahead of you. The threat for freezing rain will end by late Tuesday morning.

About

North Star Campground is one of the modern camping areas within Lake Metigoshe State Park, nestled in the scenic Turtle Mountains along the U.S./Canadian border in Bottineau County, North Dakota. Built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s, the park has become one of North Dakota's most popular year-round vacation destinations. The campground offers modern sites with electric and water hookups, providing convenient camping in a natural forested setting. Campers have access to the park's extensive trail system, including over 13 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, plus the Old Oak Trail, North Dakota's first National Recreation Trail. The small lakes within the park provide excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming at the designated beach. The unique woodlands and wetlands of Lake Metigoshe State Park support a wide variety of plant, animal, and bird species seldom seen elsewhere in North Dakota, with 37 of the park's 174+ bird species on the state's rare species list. Winter transforms the park into a hub for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, ice fishing, and access to over 250 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. The park offers equipment rentals, educational programs, and facilities including flush toilets, showers, a dump station, and a dog park.
