About
Maid O'Moonshine Campground sits within Lake Metigoshe State Park, nestled in the scenic Turtle Mountains along the U.S./Canadian border in northern North Dakota. As one of the park's two modern campgrounds, it offers electric and water hookups in a wooded environment that provides natural privacy between sites. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the park's diverse ecosystems, including unique woodlands and wetlands that host plant and bird species seldom seen elsewhere in North Dakota. Trailheads departing from the campground connect to the Kings Highway and Hemerick Point trail systems, offering opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The park features over 13 miles of trails, including the Old Oak Trail, North Dakota's first National Recreation Trail. Campers can enjoy fishing for northern pike, walleye, and perch in Lake Metigoshe, or rent canoes and kayaks to explore the smaller lakes within the park. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and fat tire biking. The campground operates year-round with limited services during fall through spring. A flush toilet comfort station is available seasonally, typically closing in early September. The park offers educational programs through the Turtle Mountain Environmental Learning Center and hosts special events throughout the year. Located 14 miles northeast of Bottineau, Lake Metigoshe State Park is one of North Dakota's most popular year-round vacation destinations.
