Winter access from early December through mid-May requires snowmobile or cross-country skis via groomed trail, 6 miles from Bear Gulch Trailhead. Key pickup at Ashton Ranger Station Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; call ahead for after-hours or weekend arrangements.

Warm River Cabin is a charming historic rental cabin located less than 20 miles from Ashton, Idaho, at Warm River Springs. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938, the cabin served as the manager's house for an Idaho fish and game hatchery that operated from the 1930s to the 1950s. The cabin sits at 6,000 feet elevation in an open grassy area flanked by conifer forest, adjacent to Warm River Springs, the source of the Warm River. The cabin accommodates up to 12 people and features six sets of bunkbeds with mattresses, a dining area with table and benches, wood stoves for cooking and heating in both the living room and kitchen, storage cabinets, and firewood. Outside amenities include a picnic table, campfire ring, and vault toilet. The location provides excellent opportunities for trout fishing and wading in the Warm River, with nearby trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and snowmobiling within 10 miles. Wildlife including moose and bears are sometimes seen in the area. The cabin is near the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, featuring the 114-foot Upper Falls and 65-foot Lower Falls.

Directions

From Ashton, travel east-northeast on Highway 47 (Mesa Falls Scenic Byway) for approximately 15 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 150. Turn right onto FR 150 and travel approximately 2.5 miles to FR 154. Turn right onto FR 154 and travel approximately 1 mile to FR 367. Keep left on FR 154 for approximately 1.5 miles to the cabin, located across the bridge adjacent to Warm River Springs.
