Harriman State Park
Closed — The campground is closed for the winter season. The park offers seasonal overnight accommodations in yurts and historic buildings, which are reservable year-round through the Idaho State Parks system.
About
Harriman State Park encompasses 16,000 acres within the Henry's Fork Caldera in eastern Idaho's Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Originally a cattle ranch and private retreat for the Harriman and Guggenheim families, the property was donated to Idaho in 1965 and became the catalyst for creating Idaho's state park system. The park serves as critical habitat for diverse wildlife including elk, moose, sandhill cranes, and notably, two-thirds of the Trumpeter Swans that winter in the lower 48 states. The park offers unique overnight experiences rather than traditional camping, including Mongolian-style yurts near Silver Lake and historic ranch buildings ranging from the three-bedroom Cattle Foreman's House to the Railroad Ranch Dormitory that accommodates up to 40 people. Eight miles of the Henry's Fork, one of America's premier fly-fishing streams, winds through park meadows. Over 22 miles of trails provide hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities in summer, while winter transforms the park into a cross-country skiing destination with groomed trails and warming huts including the historic Jones House and Becker Yurt. The park operates year-round with seasonal programming. Rangers offer tours of historic Railroad Ranch buildings and interpretive nature programs on summer weekends and holidays. The park office is open 8am-6pm and rangers live on-site year-round.
