About

Big Springs Warming Hut sits in the heart of Island Park, Idaho within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, approximately 22 miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana. The facility is surrounded by dense lodgepole pine forest with grassy meadows and summer wildflowers dotting the landscape. The area lies within the Henry's Fork Caldera, nested inside the larger Island Park Caldera, showcasing the region's volcanic geological history. The warming hut itself is a large enclosed structure with a concrete floor that can accommodate up to 200 people. Inside, visitors will find picnic tables, a wood-burning stove for heat, electrical outlets, and overhead lighting. Vault toilets are located adjacent to the building. No potable water is available on site, though water can be obtained at Big Springs Campground approximately 2.5 miles away. The facility operates on a pack-it-out trash policy. The surrounding area offers world-class fishing on Henry's Fork, one of the nation's premier fly-fishing destinations for rainbow and brook trout. Big Springs, the headwaters of Henry's Fork, is one of the largest natural springs in the country. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within a short drive for additional recreation opportunities.
