About
Big Springs Snow Park Group Campground sits at 6,300 feet elevation in the heart of Island Park, Idaho, just 22 miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana. The facility is situated near Big Springs, one of the largest springs in the country and the headwaters of Henry's Fork, considered one of the best fly-fishing streams in the nation. The group camping area can accommodate up to 40 people with amenities including picnic tables, a campfire circle, grill, tent pads, and vault toilets. Optional 30-amp electrical hookups are available for an additional fee. The warming hut features a wood-burning stove, electrical outlets, overhead lighting, and can accommodate up to 200 people.
The campground is surrounded by dense forests of lodgepole pine within the Island Park Caldera, an area formed by extinct volcanic activity. Grassy meadows burst with wildflowers in summer, and the area supports diverse wildlife including black and grizzly bears, moose, elk, deer, bald eagles, and Sandhill cranes. The Big Springs National Recreation Water Trail offers a lazy 4.5-mile float to Macks Inn through scenic river habitat. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within a short drive, providing additional outdoor recreation opportunities.
Directions
From West Yellowstone, Montana, travel 22 miles south on Highway 20 to Mack's Inn. Turn east on Big Springs Loop Road and travel 4.5 miles to the campground.
