About
Box Canyon Campground sits along the rim above the Henry's Fork of the Snake River in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest's Ashton/Island Park Ranger District, about 28 miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana. At an elevation of 6,300 feet, the campground offers 16 single-family sites and 2 double-family sites nestled among lodgepole pine and Douglas-fir trees.
Each site includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and grill, with two pull-through sites available for easier access. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet on gravel roads and parking spurs. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water hydrants, and a bear-proof dumpster, with accessible features throughout.
The Henry's Fork of the Snake River flows just west of the campground and is famous for its large rainbow trout. A scenic three-mile Box Canyon Trail follows the canyon rim from the campground, offering overlooks for photographers and hikers. Several shorter trails branch off to provide access down to the river for fishing and exploration. The surrounding forest provides opportunities for wildlife viewing in a tranquil riverside setting.
