About
Walnut Creek Recreation Area occupies a scenic location along the north shore of Keystone Lake in northeastern Oklahoma, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The park features approximately 79 campsites spread across multiple loops including Hitching Post, New Frontier, and Sailboat, with most sites offering water and 50-amp electric hookups. A single tent-only site and a group shelter are also available.
The campground provides modern amenities including restrooms with shower facilities, a dump station, and a boat ramp for lake access. Sandy beaches dot the shoreline, offering swimming opportunities against a backdrop of high bluffs and native tallgrass prairie. The 17-mile Sand Plum Trail traverses flat to rolling terrain with multiple vistas of Keystone Lake, accommodating hikers, equestrians, and mountain bikers. Trail users should stay on designated paths as quicksand may occur along the lakeshore.
Nearby attractions include the Keystone Ancient Forest and Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Preserve. The gate is locked from 10 PM to 6 AM, and camping is limited to 14 days within any 30-day period. Each site accommodates one wheeled camping unit and two tents, or three tents maximum.
