Sunset Bay

About

Sunset Bay Park sits on the shores of Heyburn Lake near Kellyville, Oklahoma, adjacent to Heyburn Dam. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground provides primitive tent camping in a scenic setting of grasslands and gently sloping sandstone hills covered with oak trees, hickory, ash, elm, and cottonwood. In spring, flowering wild plum and redbud trees add color to the landscape, and the western-facing location offers excellent sunset views. The campground features 14 tent-only nonelectric sites with vault restrooms and water hydrants dispersed throughout the park. A boat ramp and courtesy dock provide lake access for boaters and anglers pursuing crappie, bass, and catfish. Swimming and kayaking are also popular activities. Nearby attractions include other Heyburn Lake recreation areas such as Heyburn Park, Overlook, and Sheppard Point. Keystone Lake lies about 25 miles to the north, Historic Route 66 passes through the area, and Tulsa is less than 30 miles northeast.

Directions

From Bristow, go 9 miles east and turn left onto 257th West Ave. Follow the paved road about 2 miles to the campground. From Sapulpa, take State Highway 66 west to Kellyville, turn west onto 151st South Ave and go about 3.5 miles to the 4-way intersection. Turn right and stay on the paved road for about 1 mile until you reach the park.
