From Recreation.gov

Sunset Bay campground is closed for the season and will reopen April 1st, 2026.

About

Sunset Bay Park is located adjacent to Heyburn Dam on the shores of Heyburn Lake near Kellyville. This primitive camping area features 14 tent campsites nestled in a picturesque setting of grasslands and gently sloping sandstone hills covered with oak trees and scattered with hickory, ash, elm, and cottonwood. In the spring, flowering wild plum and redbud trees add vibrant color to the soft, green landscape, making it a particularly scenic time to visit. The park offers basic amenities including a boat ramp, courtesy dock, and vault restrooms, making it ideal for those seeking a more rustic camping experience. Boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming are all popular activities at Sunset Bay. Anglers can expect to catch crappie, bass, and catfish in the lake waters. True to its name, the park provides excellent sunset viewing opportunities over the water. Visitors can explore other recreation areas around Heyburn Lake including Heyburn Park, Overlook, and Sheppard Point. The campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located approximately 9 miles east of Bristow or accessible from Sapulpa via Historic Route 66. Keystone Lake lies about 25 miles to the north, and Tulsa is less than 30 miles northeast.

Directions

From Bristow, go 9 miles east and turn left onto 257th West Ave. Follow the paved road about 2 miles to the campground. From Sapulpa, take State Highway 66 west to Kellyville, turn west onto 151st South Ave and go about 3.5 miles to the 4-way intersection. Turn right and stay on the paved road for about 1 mile until you reach the park.
