About

Wallashuck Campground is situated on the north shore of Lake Red Rock, Iowa's largest lake, along the Des Moines River. The campground offers 83 sites with electric hookups, nestled among shaded hardwood forests that provide scenic views of the lake. Located just 10 minutes from Pella and its Dutch heritage attractions, and 15 minutes from Knoxville, the Sprint car capital of the world, the campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the region. Lake Red Rock provides excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. Anglers can pursue crappie, largemouth and striped bass, walleye, channel and flathead catfish, northern pike, and bluegill. Miles of designated water trails along the shoreline accommodate kayakers and canoeists. The area features several miles of trails for hiking and biking, including the 15-mile paved Volksweg Trail that stretches west from Pella to the Des Moines River and Cordova Recreation Area. Wildlife viewing is exceptional throughout the year. The area hosts a wide variety of migrating waterfowl, including American White Pelicans in spring and fall. Bald eagles can be observed from November through March, while white-tailed deer, turkeys, and other wildlife are commonly spotted around the lake. The campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and operates with a reservation-only system through Recreation.gov.
