About

Fifield Recreation Area is situated on the shores of Lake Red Rock, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project on the Des Moines River and Iowa's largest lake. The area provides day-use facilities including four reservable picnic shelters, each equipped with 20-amp electrical outlets, fire rings, and outdoor grills. Modern flush restrooms and a playground are available on site. The recreation area offers access to the Volksweg Trail, a 15-mile paved bike path stretching west from Pella to the Des Moines River. Lake Red Rock provides excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing opportunities. Anglers can expect crappie, walleye, largemouth and striped bass, channel and flathead catfish, northern pike, and bluegill. Note: Fifield is a day-use facility only. Shelter occupancy is permitted until dusk and no overnight camping is allowed. Golf carts, UTVs, and ATVs are prohibited. For overnight camping at Lake Red Rock, visitors should explore other campgrounds in the project area such as Elk Rock, Whitebreast, or Roberts Creek.
