About
Whitebreast Point Shelter is a day-use facility situated within Whitebreast Campground on the south shore of Lake Red Rock. The conventional open shelter provides 20-amp electrical service, an outdoor grill, fire ring, water fountain, and access to nearby vault toilets. It serves as an ideal gathering spot for family reunions, group picnics, and day events. Lake Red Rock is Iowa's largest lake, created by a dam on the Des Moines River and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The area is surrounded by hardwood forests offering shade and scenic views. Wildlife is abundant, with waterfowl including American White Pelicans migrating through in spring and fall, and bald eagles observable from November through March. The shelter is located just 10 minutes from Pella, known for its Dutch heritage, and 15 minutes from Knoxville. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, and biking in the surrounding area, with the 15-mile paved Volksweg Trail accessible nearby.
Directions
From Knoxville, take County Highway T-15 northeast for 8 miles. Turn north onto County Highway S-71 and continue 2 miles, following signs to the campground.
