Bear Creek Lake State Park's Bunkhouse and Group Site Loop offers versatile group camping options in the heart of Virginia's Cumberland State Forest, less than an hour west of Richmond. The climate-controlled bunkhouse features two rooms with seven bunk beds total, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and an outdoor deck with charcoal grill. Guests must bring their own bedding and towels as none are provided. The bunkhouse accommodates up to 14 people with a maximum of five vehicles. The adjacent primitive group campsite is tent-only with no hookups, water, or electricity at the site itself. It features six picnic tables, a large pedestal grill, and a stone fire pit surrounded by three benches, with all equipment required to be set up on gravel-covered areas. The group site accommodates up to 36 people with a maximum of six vehicles. Both facilities share the Chestnut Loop bathhouse approximately 75 yards away, which offers flush toilets and showers. The 326-acre park surrounds a 40-acre lake and offers fishing, swimming at the guarded beach, hiking trails through the surrounding Cumberland State Forest, and boat rentals. Note that a burn ban is in effect from February 15 through April 30 between midnight and 4 p.m.

Directions

From U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622 and south on Route 629 to the park entrance. Those coming from the west should continue on Route 60 East through Cumberland Courthouse area, then turn left on Trents Mill Road (Route 622) to reach the main entrance. The bunkhouse and group site are located near Chestnut Loop.
