Visitor Center Picnic Shelter

Open — Open year-round for reservations. Shelter restrooms are closed during winter months. If not reserved, the shelter may be used free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Events other than picnics or gatherings over 50 people require a Special Use Permit submitted 30 days in advance.

Shelter reservations for any event other than a picnic (wedding, sporting event, etc.) or for over 50 attendees/participants require a Special Use Permit Application be submitted 30 days in advance of the reservation date. Please call (270) 465-4463 for more information and to request a permit application from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Green River Lake Office.

About

The Visitor Center Picnic Shelter is located within the Visitor Center Day Use Area at Green River Lake in central Kentucky. The shelter sits right outside the Corps of Engineers Visitor Center, approximately 1 mile off KY-55. Amenities include electricity hookup, 8 picnic tables, grills, and access to a playground and restroom facilities. The shelter provides easy access to numerous recreational opportunities. The dam overlook, hiking trails, Visitor Center, and the historic Atkinson-Griffin Civil War Log Cabin are all within short walking distance. Green River Lake features 8,000 surface acres of water ideal for boating, fishing, jet skiing, and wake boarding, with ten boat ramps around the shoreline and three full-service marinas. The Site 1 boat ramp and lake access are located just 1 mile from the shelter. Green River Lake encompasses 32,000 acres in central Kentucky and is known for excellent fishing, with walleye, crappie, white bass, channel catfish, muskie, and bluegill in abundance. Miles of scenic trails wind around the lake and along the shore. Green River Lake State Park is a 3.5 mile drive away, and several historical attractions including Abraham Lincoln's birthplace and Mammoth Cave National Park are within an hour's drive.

Directions

From Campbellsville: Head southwest on E Broadway St toward Lebanon Ave (0.6 mi). E Broadway St turns slightly right and becomes US-68 W/Greensburg Rd (0.5 mi). Turn left onto KY-55 S (8.3 mi). Turn left onto Hwy 1061/Lake Rd (0.7 mi). When the road forks, take the right side towards the Corps Office and Visitor Center (0.2 mi). Destination will be on the right.
