About
Big Oak Picnic Shelter is located within the Dam Area Day Use Area at Green River Lake. Situated along Kentucky's Highland Rim, the Dam Area is surrounded by forested tracks, rolling meadows and the pristine banks of Green River Lake. The facility provides a scenic setting for picnics and group gatherings. With 8,000 surface acres of water, Green River Lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, jet skiing, and wake boarding. Ten boat ramps are located around the shoreline, and three full-service marinas serve the lake. Anglers can catch walleye, crappie, white bass, channel catfish, muskie and bluegill. Miles of trails wind around the lake and along the shore, affording some of the most scenic views in the region. The shelter is conveniently located just half a mile from the Corps of Engineers Visitor Center, the Historical Civil War Atkinson-Griffin Log Cabin, and the Site 1 boat ramp area. Green River Lake State Park is a short 3.5 mile drive away. Several historical attractions including Abraham Lincoln's birthplace and Mammoth Cave National Park are within an hour of the lake.
Directions
From Campbellsville: Head southwest on E Broadway St toward Lebanon Ave for 0.6 miles. Continue on US-68 W/Greensburg Rd for 0.5 miles. Turn left onto KY-55 S for 8.3 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 1061/Lake Rd for 0.5 miles. Destination will be on the right.
