About

Vermilion Ridge Campground is the primary camping area at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park in northeastern Minnesota's Iron Range country. Opened in 2017, this modern facility features 32 drive-in campsites arranged in four distinct loops, each with 30 and 50-amp electric service, a picnic table, and fire ring with grate. The campground accommodates both tent campers seeking spacious grassy sites and RV campers needing hookups. Facilities include modern shower buildings with hot water, flush toilets, vault toilets distributed throughout, drinking water, and a dump station. Free WiFi covers most developed areas. Three ADA-accessible sites and three pull-through sites serve campers with specific needs. Three group camps with screened picnic shelters accommodate larger parties up to 30-50 people, and eight camper cabins are located nearby for those preferring roofed accommodations. Lake Vermilion, one of Minnesota's largest and most scenic lakes with over 40,000 acres of water and 365 islands, offers excellent walleye and muskie fishing just minutes from the campground. The park's signature attraction is the Soudan Underground Mine, where visitors descend 2,341 feet to the 27th level of Minnesota's oldest, deepest, and richest iron mine.
