About

Bear Head Lake Group Campground is located within Bear Head Lake State Park in the Superior National Forest region of northeastern Minnesota. The group site (GC1) can accommodate up to 50 people and features a stunning panoramic view overlooking Bear Head Lake's east bay. The primitive campground includes essential amenities such as a water pump for drinking water, bear boxes for secure food storage, picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and pit toilets. The park itself encompasses over 4,300 acres of pristine north woods habitat surrounding Bear Head Lake. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with possible sightings of white-tailed deer, wolves, pine martens, and bald eagles. The area offers excellent fishing, with two managed trout lakes (Norberg Lake and Cub Lake) nearby. Winter activities include cross-country skiing on 5.5 miles of groomed trails, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. Group campsite reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system online or by phone. Unlike the park's main campground which offers electric sites and seasonal shower buildings, the group camp is primitive in nature with no modern restroom facilities or hookups. Campers should bring appropriate gear for tent camping and use only approved firewood to prevent the spread of invasive species.
