About
Bear Head Lake Campground sits within 4,375-acre Bear Head Lake State Park in Minnesota's Iron Range, offering a quieter alternative to the nearby Boundary Waters. The 73-site campground features back-in sites suitable for tents and RVs up to 60 feet, with 45 sites providing electric hookups. Comfort stations with flush toilets and hot showers operate seasonally from May through September. Each campsite comes equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, and a fish cleaning shack serves anglers. The park encompasses five lakes, including the 674-acre Bear Head Lake and designated trout waters at Norberg and Cub lakes. Campers can borrow free fishing equipment from the park office during summer. Small docks throughout the campground provide convenient shoreline access. The park also offers five camper cabins with heat and electricity, a 10-person guesthouse, and remote backpack sites on Blueberry Lake for those seeking more solitude. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with white-tailed deer, wolves, pine martens, and bald eagles commonly spotted. The park maintains 5.5 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails in winter and offers snowshoe rentals from the trail center.
