Valley View Campground

Open

Open year-round. Water systems are currently offline due to infrastructure issues; campers must bring all drinking water. Wood and charcoal campfires are not permitted; only gas camp stoves and propane fire bowls allowed.

About

Valley View Campground sits within Fremont Peak State Park in the Gabilan Range, offering 25 primitive campsites shaded by oaks with spectacular vistas stretching from Monterey Bay to the Santa Lucia Mountains. The campground serves as a base for exploring the park's hiking and biking trails, or for attending astronomy programs at the Fremont Peak Observatory, which houses a 30-inch Challenger telescope and hosts public viewing sessions on select Saturday evenings. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, with fixed vault toilets located in the campground loop. There are no showers, hookups, or dump station. RVs are permitted at select sites in the Valley View Loop, though vehicles over 25 feet are not recommended due to the winding access road and tight campground turns. Four sites are held for first-come, first-served campers; the remaining 21 are reservable through ReserveCalifornia. Dogs are allowed in the campground but prohibited on park trails and must remain on a leash no longer than 6 feet when outside vehicles or tents.
