About

Oak Point Campground is one of two campgrounds at Fremont Peak State Park, situated in San Benito County about 11 miles south of San Juan Bautista. The primitive, oak-shaded sites offer exceptional views of Monterey Bay and the surrounding valleys from an elevation of over 3,000 feet. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring for campfires when not under fire restrictions. The park is home to the Fremont Peak Observatory, featuring a 30-inch telescope that hosts public astronomy programs on moonless Saturday evenings. Beyond camping, visitors can enjoy hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, and geocaching. The summit provides one of the best vantage points in the region for stargazing and taking in the coastal scenery. Due to the narrow, winding access road (San Juan Canyon Road) and tight turns within the campground, RVs and trailers over 25 feet are not recommended. Several sites have sloped driveways that may make leveling difficult. Dogs are allowed in the campground but prohibited on trails.
