About
Upper Billy Creek Campground sits within Sierra National Forest on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, across the road from Huntington Lake and near the Kaiser Wilderness boundary. The campground features 43 sites divided between tent-only and standard sites that accommodate RVs and trailers, all situated beneath a grove of large cedar, fir, and pine trees. Some sites offer views of Huntington Lake while others overlook Billy Creek with its abundant wildflowers. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the area's diverse recreation opportunities. Nearby hiking trails include Rancheria Falls (1 mile), Indian Pools (1 mile), and Black Point (0.7 miles). The 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail provides access to the Kaiser Wilderness trail network for hikers and horseback riders. Huntington Lake offers swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, and water skiing. During summer, California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs and nature walks at the campground's amphitheater. The adjacent Billy Creek Guard Station Museum provides historical overviews of Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and Forest Service history. The 83-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) makes for an excellent day trip from the area.
