About
Upper Billy Creek Campground occupies a shaded grove of large cedar, fir, and pine trees across the road from Huntington Lake in Sierra National Forest. The campground provides 36 individual sites plus one group site, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available on-site. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring the Kaiser Wilderness, with trailheads for Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point all within a mile. Huntington Lake offers a full range of water activities including swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and water skiing. The adjacent Billy Creek Guard Station Museum provides historical context about Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and the Forest Service. California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs and nature walks throughout the summer at the campground amphitheater. The 83-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway makes an excellent day trip from the area. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov with a six-month booking window. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and holiday weekends require three nights. Maximum vehicle length is 30 feet. Pets are allowed with a limit of two per site, and must be leashed at all times. Bear-proof food storage is required.
