About

Deer Creek Campground occupies a prime location along the scenic shores of Huntington Lake in the Sierra National Forest. The campground is shaded by dense fir and pine trees and offers spectacular views of the lake, particularly during the annual sailboat regatta. With 28 sites spread across two distinct loops, campers can choose between heavily forested lakeside sites or more open, sunny sites with easier access to the nearby resort community of Lakeshore. The campground serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The proximity to Kaiser Wilderness provides access to an extensive network of hiking and horseback riding trails, including the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail. Popular day hikes include Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point. Huntington Lake itself offers swimming, sailing, boating, water skiing, and fishing opportunities. The Billy Creek Guard Station Museum, located adjacent to the campground, provides historical context about Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and the Forest Service. California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs throughout the summer at various locations around the Huntington Lake basin, with schedules posted at campgrounds and the Eastwood Visitor Center.
