About

Deer Creek Campground is located along the scenic shore of Huntington Lake in Sierra National Forest, tucked beneath dense fir and pine forest at approximately 7,000 feet elevation. The campground features two distinct loops offering different camping experiences. The first loop is more heavily forested with numerous sites directly along the lakeshore, while the second loop provides more open, sunny sites with closer access to the nearby resort community of Lakeshore. All sites feature paved parking spurs and offer views of Huntington Lake, which is particularly scenic during the annual sailboat regatta. The location provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. Huntington Lake offers swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, and water skiing, with a public boat launch between College and Deer Creek campgrounds. Boats can be moored near some campsites. Hikers can explore nearby trails including Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point, or access the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail connecting to the extensive Kaiser Wilderness trail network. The adjacent Billy Creek Guard Station Museum provides historical context about Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and Forest Service history. California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs and nature walks throughout the summer season at various Huntington Lake locations. The campground sits within the spectacular Sierra National Forest landscape, characterized by rolling oak foothills transitioning to heavily forested middle elevations and the stark alpine beauty of the High Sierra.
