About
Kinnikinnick Campground sits under a dense canopy of fir and pine trees in Sierra National Forest, directly across from Huntington Lake near the Kaiser Wilderness. At 7,000 feet elevation, the campground offers a cool summer retreat with some sites providing views of the lake. Each site includes a paved parking spur, picnic table, campfire ring, and grill. The campground is managed by California Land Management, with check-in at their office near the Eastwood Visitor Center at the east end of Huntington Lake. The location provides excellent access to Huntington Lake recreation including swimming, sailing, boating, kayaking, fishing, and water skiing. Nearby hiking trails include Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point. Hikers and horseback riders can access the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail connecting to an extensive trail network within the Kaiser Wilderness. The Billy Creek Guard Station museum is located nearby, and California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs throughout the summer. The 84-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) offers a scenic day trip from the area.
Directions
Take Highway 168 east from Clovis to Shaver Lake. Continue through Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake. Continue around Huntington Lake for 1.3 miles to Kinnikinnick Campground, located adjacent to Catavee Campground.
