About
Upper Billy Creek Campground occupies a scenic forested setting across the road from Huntington Lake at approximately 7,000 feet elevation in the Sierra National Forest. The campground features 36 sites nestled beneath large cedar, fir, and pine trees, with some sites offering views of Huntington Lake while others overlook Billy Creek and its seasonal wildflowers. The location serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the Kaiser Wilderness, with access to numerous hiking and equestrian trails including the 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail, Rancheria Falls (1 mile), Indian Pools (1 mile), and Black Point (0.7 miles). Huntington Lake itself offers swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and water skiing. The adjacent Billy Creek Guard Station Museum provides historical overviews of Huntington Lake, Native Americans, and the Forest Service. California Land Management sponsors interpretive programs and nature walks throughout the summer at the amphitheater at Upper Billy Creek. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage in bear-proof containers is required.
