About
Lower Billy Creek Campground is a small, scenic campground located on the shores of Huntington Lake within Sierra National Forest. Every one of its 10 sites offers views of the lake, and the campground is nestled among fir and pine trees on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada. The adjacent Billy Creek Guard Station Museum provides historical overviews of Huntington Lake, Native American history, and Forest Service heritage. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Kaiser Wilderness, with nearby hiking trails including Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point. The 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail connects to an extensive network within the wilderness and is accessible to hikers and horseback riders. Huntington Lake itself offers swimming, sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and water skiing. Sites include paved parking spurs, picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers for bear country compliance. Vault toilets and potable water are available, though RV water tanks cannot be filled at the campground. The 84-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) makes an excellent day trip from this area.
Directions
From Clovis, take Highway 168 north 70 miles through Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake. Check in at the campground office at Eastwood, then continue 3.3 miles around Huntington Lake to Lower Billy Creek Campground.
