About

Union Grove Park is situated on the southwestern shore of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, a 6,430-acre reservoir created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1968. The campground is one of only two reservable camping facilities on the lake, offering over 30 developed campsites with water and electric hookups. Sites include options for RVs and tents, as well as three screened shelters for guests without camping equipment. The terrain features gently rolling hills that are mostly open with limited shade, and most campsites provide views of the lake, with some positioned directly along the shoreline. The facility includes modern amenities such as restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a swimming beach, fishing dock, playground, and a four-lane boat ramp. Stillhouse Hollow Lake's 58 miles of shoreline remain largely undeveloped, featuring rocky beaches and sandy bluffs. The lake is known for its clear, deep water and offers excellent fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish. Birding opportunities abound with hawks, Great Blue herons, waterfowl, and even occasional bald eagle sightings. The campground is located within a short drive of the Village of Salado, which offers golf, art galleries, and shopping. Chalk Ridge Falls Environmental Learning Center, situated below the dam, provides about five miles of hiking trails including a nature trail along the Lampasas River. The lake is near Fort Hood Army Base and features an RC model airplane field just outside the park gate. This location is unstaffed and requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Interstate 35 in Salado, Texas take the Farm-to-Market Road 2484 exit. Travel west on FM 2484 about five miles to Union Grove Park Road, and turn right into the facility.
