About

Dana Peak Campground is located on a peninsula along the shoreline of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, a 6,430-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir in central Texas. The campground features over 30 campsites including standard RV sites with 30-amp electric hookups, tent sites with electric, and eight primitive tent sites without hookups. The terrain is mostly grassy, flat, and open with little shade, though most sites are positioned right along the water's edge or within a short walk of the lake. The facility offers restrooms with flush toilets and showers, a swimming beach, a four-lane boat ramp, and picnic areas. All campsites include a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. A group shelter accommodating up to 80 people is available by reservation. Dana Peak Trails, located just outside the main entrance, provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, with a hitching post available for equestrians. Stillhouse Hollow Lake's 58 miles of shoreline offer excellent opportunities for boating, fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish, and wildlife viewing. The lake area remains largely undeveloped with rocky beaches and sandy bluffs. Birders can spot hawks, Great Blue herons, various waterfowl, songbirds, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, and occasional bald eagles. The campground is one of only two reservable campgrounds on the lake and often fills up on summer weekends.

Directions

From Interstate 35 in Belton, take Highway 190 west to the Simmons Road exit. Cross under the highway and turn west on Farm-to-Market Road 2410. Turn left (south) on Comanche Gap Road and drive five miles to reach the park.
