Winkler Park

Open

Open for reservations. The campground operates seasonally from March 1 through October 31 and is closed November 1 through February 28.

About

Winkler Park is a primitive campground on the northern shore of Belton Lake, a 12,300-acre reservoir created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Leon River in Central Texas. The campground offers 14 lakefront sites, each with water hookups, a covered picnic table, grill, and fire ring. A central bathhouse provides flush toilets, sinks, and showers. There is no electricity at the sites. The campground is popular with anglers pursuing hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and sunfish. Wildlife in the area includes deer, wild turkey, great blue herons, ducks, geese, and occasional bald eagles. Though the sites themselves are sunny and open, the perimeter and shoreline are forested. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out is before 2 p.m. A maximum 14-day stay limit applies within any 30-consecutive-day period. RV dump facilities are not on-site but are available free to Winkler guests at nearby White Flint Park.

Directions

From Interstate 35 in Temple, Texas, take State Highway 53/36 west towards Gatesville for approximately 10 miles. Just after the Leon River Bridge, turn right on White Flint Park Road. Turn left on Winkler Park Road and follow it to the park entrance.
