About

Umpqua Sand Camping provides a unique primitive camping experience dispersed along the sandy beaches of the Pacific Coast in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The campground is home to the tallest sand dunes in the Oregon Dunes, with wind-sculpted formations towering up to 500 feet above sea level. All campsites are accessible only by 4X4 vehicles on soft sand, with access through either Umpqua Beach #2 or #3 Day Use and OHV Staging Areas. The area is renowned for off-road vehicle riding, featuring large open riding zones with expansive sand dunes and incredible views of the Pacific Ocean from the tops of the dunes. Standard sites accommodate five vehicles and up to 20 people, while two group sites can fit 10 vehicles and 40 campers. Sites are identified by numbered posts, and campers should set up within 150 feet of their designated post. This is a true pack-in, pack-out facility with no water, toilets, or other amenities provided. Campers must bring ample drinking water, portable toilets, fire pans, and all necessary equipment. Seasonal rainfall may cause temporary flooding in some sites, particularly sites 46-57. The area offers year-round camping with reservations available through Recreation.gov, though sites fill quickly during peak summer season.
