About
Hauser Sand Camping provides 25 dispersed primitive campsites in the heart of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, offering a unique camping experience directly on soft sand. Sites are numbered 74 through 97, with sites 88 and 90 designated as group campsites. Access to all sites requires a 4x4 vehicle via Sandy Way off Hauser Depot Road. Standard sites accommodate up to 5 vehicles and 20 people, while group sites can handle 10 vehicles and 40 campers. Sites are identified by numbered posts, and campers must stay within 150 feet of the post. This location is ideal for off-road vehicle enthusiasts, with designated OHV routes including the Hauser Beach Sand Route, Bark Sand Route, and Coast Guard Sand Route, plus open riding zones featuring tall dunes and wide vistas. The Pacific Ocean beach is just a short ride away via the Hauser Beach and Saunders OHV routes. The dunefield environment features tall, open dunes surrounded by coastal forest, with numerous small lakes and ponds nearby including Beale Lake. Camping is entirely primitive with no water, restrooms, fire rings, or trash service. Campers must bring all necessary equipment including ample drinking water, portable toilets, fire pans, and garbage bags. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility. Remote sites 74-85 and 94-97 have difficult access even for experienced 4x4 operators. Sites 83 and 97 may be seasonally flooded during winter. All motorized vehicles require a State of Oregon OHV permit for riding, and a midnight to 6 a.m. curfew applies to OHV use.
