About

Tyee Campground occupies a scenic location on the banks of the Umpqua River, one of only two rivers in Oregon that begins in the Cascade Mountains and flows to the Pacific Ocean. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, this 15-site campground is situated between Roseburg and the coast in southwestern Oregon's Douglas County. The name Umpqua comes from the Native American Umpqua language, meaning "thundering waters," "satisfied," or "across the waters." The campground is divided into two areas along a paved access road. Campsites feature sand-surface tent pads, fire rings, and picnic tables. Multiple drinking water spigots are located throughout the campground, along with two accessible vault toilets. Anglers will find excellent opportunities to catch chinook and coho salmon, steelhead, or bass depending on the season. Horseshoe pits provide additional recreation, and river access is available via stairs in the day-use area. The campground also features a large reservable pavilion with picnic tables, a serving counter, sink, electrical outlets, and a barbecue grill. Nearby attractions include the Umpqua River Scenic Byway, the town of Elkton with its wineries and butterfly pavilion, and the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area where Roosevelt Elk sightings are common. The Pacific Coast is approximately 50 miles west. Note that there are two Tyee Campgrounds in Oregon; this location is on the Umpqua River, while another is located near the Oregon Dunes.
