About
Cavitt Creek Falls Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground tucked away from the busier North Umpqua corridor, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by old-growth fir, maple, and cedar trees. The centerpiece of the recreation site is a picturesque six-foot waterfall on Cavitt Creek that forms a sought-after swimming hole at its base, providing a refreshing escape on hot summer days. From September through April, salmon and steelhead can be seen leaping up the falls during their spawning runs. Located at an elevation of 1,050 feet on the edge of the Umpqua National Forest, the campground offers 10 reservable campsites, most sitting under a canopy of trees for natural shade. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, grills, and a stairway leading down to the swimming area. Cavitt Creek and Little River are open to trout fishing with artificial flies and lures only from late May through mid-September. The recreation site serves as a base for exploring nearby attractions including Wolf Creek Falls Trail, a 1.2-mile hike through old-growth forest to a two-tier waterfall with 50 and 75-foot cascades. The North Umpqua River offers rafting opportunities, and the scenic Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway is within a short drive. Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance through Recreation.gov, and the campground operates on a reservation-only system with no on-site transactions permitted.
