Air Quality Alert issued August 7 at 10:22AM PDT by NWS Medford OR
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory...in effect until noon PDT Monday for eastern Douglas County...mainly for areas in the south Umpqua River valley near Tiller and the Umpqua National Forest east of Steamboat. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels at times. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. About
Cavitt Creek Falls Recreation Site offers 10 campsites built on three terraced levels in a forest of fir, maple, and cedar trees. Four of the sites are waterfront, positioned along Cavitt Creek. The centerpiece is a 6-foot waterfall that feeds a swimming hole, making this a popular destination during hot summer days. A stairway provides access to the swimming area, though an accessible waterfall viewing spot exists in the day-use area. Managed by the BLM Roseburg District, the campground provides vault restrooms and drinking water but no hookups. Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance through Recreation.gov; no on-site transactions are allowed. The maximum vehicle length is 34 feet. Nearby attractions include Wolf Creek Falls Trail (1.2 miles through old growth forest to a two-tier waterfall), rafting on the North Umpqua River, and the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway. Cavitt Creek and Little River offer catch-and-release trout fishing with artificial flies and lures from late May through mid-September.
Directions
From Roseburg, head east on Hwy 138 for 16.5 miles. Turn right on Little River Road and continue 6.7 miles. Turn right onto New Bridge Road (becomes Cavitt Creek Road) and continue 3.2 miles west to the recreation site.
