About

Millpond Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground nestled along Rock Creek, approximately 22 miles east of Roseburg in southwestern Oregon. The campground sits in a lush forest of Douglas fir, western red cedar, and sugar pines at an elevation of 1,170 feet in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The 12-site loop campground provides access to diverse recreational opportunities. The clear waters of Rock Creek offer swimming areas with a beach, picnic tables, and grills. Adjacent to the day-use pavilion area, visitors will find horseshoe pits and a children's playground. A large ball field across from the day-use parking area accommodates kickball, softball, and other sports. The site features interpretive panels and trails, including a short nature trail on the west end and the mile-long Sawmill Trail to the east that passes through the site of an old lumber mill. Rock Creek flows into the North Umpqua River just five miles away. Designated by Congress in 1988 as a National Wild and Scenic River, the North Umpqua is a tributary of the Umpqua River system that runs over 200 miles from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean. The area provides access to the 79-mile North Umpqua Trail for mountain biking and hiking, as well as kayaking, whitewater rafting, and fishing opportunities. The nearby Rock Creek Fish Hatchery offers visitors the chance to view salmon and steelhead.

Directions

From Roseburg, travel 22 miles east on Highway 138. Six miles east of Glide, turn north onto Rock Creek Road (County Road 78) and continue 5 miles to the campground.
