About

Twisp River Horse Camp is a specialized equestrian camping facility located in a forested setting at the remote southwest end of the Twisp River Area, approximately 22.6 miles northwest of Twisp. This campground is designed exclusively for campers traveling with horses and pack animals, offering essential amenities including a loading ramp, hitch rails, and manure bunkers. Sites can accommodate rigs up to 30 feet in length. The camp serves as a strategic base for exploring the surrounding backcountry, with direct access to several notable trails including Twisp River Trail #440, Louis Lake Trail #428, and routes into the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with on-site payment via the Scan and Pay system using the Recreation.gov mobile app. Campers must be self-sufficient as no potable water is provided, and all trash must be packed out. The location offers light usage and a peaceful setting for stock users planning extended wilderness trips. Wilderness regulations apply in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, and backcountry permits are required for camping in adjacent North Cascades National Park areas. The campground is typically accessible from May through October, with winter road closures and snow limiting access during colder months.
