An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the following agencies: Washington Department of Ecology Colville Confederated Tribes Environmental Protection Agency Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Adams, Asotin, Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Garfield, Grant, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, and Whitman Counties until further notice due to current and expected smoke from regional fires. Particulate matter (PM2.5) may reach Very Unhealthy levels for areas directly downwind from active wildfires. Other areas may reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or worse. Intermittent clearing may occur due to windy conditions, but smoke production continues to be significant. When air quality is Unhealthy, everyone should reduce exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and follow tips for cleaner indoor air. When air quality is Very Unhealthy, everyone should reduce exposure. Stay inside and filter indoor air to keep it cleaner. Go elsewhere for cleaner air, if needed.

Klipchuck Campground occupies a forested setting along Early Winters Creek in the Methow Valley Ranger District, roughly 19 miles northwest of Winthrop off Highway 20. The campground sits at approximately 2,900 feet and provides access to several trails in the scenic highway corridor, including Driveway Butte Trail 481 directly adjacent to the campground and Cedar Creek Trail 476, which leads to a waterfall. The campground offers vault toilets and potable drinking water from a hand pump. Sites include picnic tables and trash receptacles. Each site can accommodate up to two tents or one RV and one tent. Early Winters Creek runs alongside but is closed to fishing per Washington State regulations. Klipchuck operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Payment is available on-site via QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app. The campground typically operates from May through late October, weather dependent. Maximum stay is 14 days.

Directions

From Winthrop, drive 17.6 miles west on North Cascades Scenic Highway 20, then turn right onto NF-300 and continue about 1.3 miles to the campground.
