About

Mystery Campground is a small group campground situated in a forested setting along the scenic Twisp River in the Methow Valley Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. At 2,800 feet elevation, the campground provides a secluded atmosphere approximately 18.5 miles northwest of the town of Twisp, with the final stretch on gravel Forest Road #4440. The campground offers basic amenities including a vault toilet and picnic tables, but campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The $40 per night group site fee is payable on-site via cash, check, or the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay mobile app. The location makes an ideal basecamp for outdoor recreation in the surrounding wilderness. Williams Creek Trailhead is just 0.3 miles away, providing access to hiking trails leading into the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. The area also offers mountain biking on the Twisp River Trail, cycling on quiet gravel forest roads, and fishing opportunities along the Twisp River.

Directions

From Twisp, turn west off State Highway 20 onto paved Twisp River Road (County Road #9114). At 12 miles the road becomes Forest Road #44, then at 6 more miles turns into gravel Forest Road #4440. At the fork, stay left and drive 0.2 miles to Mystery Campground on the left before the bridge crossing (18.5 total miles from Twisp).
