About

Mystery Campground is a small, forested group campground nestled along the Twisp River approximately 12.5 miles west of Twisp in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This quiet, secluded site caters to groups looking for an intimate wilderness experience away from larger, more developed campgrounds. The campground serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation. Mountain bikers can access the nearby Twisp River Trail, while hikers have numerous options including the Williams Creek Trailhead just 0.3 miles from camp. Multiple trails lead into the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness for extended backpacking trips. Cyclists will also enjoy the quiet gravel forest roads in the area. The Twisp River provides opportunities for stream fishing. At 2,800 feet elevation, Mystery Campground operates seasonally, typically from late May through October. The site is first-come, first-served and features vault toilets and picnic tables. Campers should bring all necessary drinking water as none is available on-site. The campground follows pack-in, pack-out principles with no trash service. The location is accessed via a combination of paved and gravel forest roads, with the final stretch on Forest Road 4440.

Directions

From Twisp, turn west off State Highway 20 onto paved Twisp River Road (County Road 9114). At 12 miles the road turns into Forest Road 44. At 6 more miles, road turns into gravel Forest Road 4440.
