About
South Creek Campground is located at 3,100 feet elevation near the confluence of South Creek and the Twisp River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 22 miles west of Twisp. The campground is accessed via a combination of paved Twisp River Road and gravel Forest Service Road 4440, with the final 4 miles on gravel. This remote campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. The Twisp River Trail #440 provides access along the river valley, while South Creek Trail #401 and nearby Scatter Creek Trail #427 both lead into the wilderness area. The location offers opportunities for day hiking, bicycling on forest roads, scenic drives, horseback riding, and fishing in the Twisp River and South Creek. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only with no advance reservations. Sites accommodate a maximum of 2 vehicles, with either 2 tents or 1 RV and 1 tent per site. Visitors should come prepared as there is no potable water (water must be treated or filtered from nearby sources), and no trash service is provided. Payment can be made via Scan & Pay mobile system or with cash/check.
Directions
From Twisp, drive west on paved Twisp River Road (County Road 9114) for 12 miles, then the county road becomes paved Forest Service Road 44.
